Mary Daisie Gyenfie – Professional Biography Mary Daisie Gyenfie is a seasoned sustainability professional with 15 years of combined experience in the mining and oil & gas industries. She specializes in Environmental Management, Sustainability, and the strategic delivery of Net Zero and Emissions Management portfolios. With a strong background in environmental compliance, corporate sustainability strategy, and emissions reduction, she has successfully led initiatives that drive sustainability and operational efficiency in high-impact industries.
She is a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and an ISO 14001 and 45001 Certified Lead Auditor, demonstrating her commitment to environmental excellence and occupational health and safety. Additionally, she is NEBOSH IGC certified, equipping her with in-depth knowledge of health and safety management in industrial environments. She is also a Member of the Energy Institute and the British Institute of Energy Economics.
Mary holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Development and Environmental Management from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey, UK, and a Bachelor of Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She has further strengthened her expertise with a Certificate in Sustainable Finance from the University of Cambridge – Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Management Essentials from Harvard University. She is also a McKinsey Forward Program Alumni, gaining leadership and problem-solving skills for driving impact in complex business environments.
Mary joined Ghana’s upstream energy industry in 2017, where she has provided environmental and sustainability advisory and compliance management for her company’s onshore and offshore operations. She has worked closely with Operational Leads to integrate sustainability principles into operations, ensuring environmentally responsible practices that align with industry regulations and corporate sustainability goals.
She further deepened her technical expertise with a five-month intensive program at the Oil and Gas University, run by Baker Hughes and General Electric at their Nuovo Pignone facility in Florence, Italy. This experience focused on rotating equipment, turbines, and gas compression technology and innovations in the oil and gas industry, enhancing her understanding of energy infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Prior to her career in oil and gas, Mary built a strong foundation in the minerals and mining industry, where she gained extensive experience in environmental and sustainability management. She also worked in commercial banking within the financial services sector, adding a business and financial perspective to her sustainability expertise. These diverse career transitions have broadened her professional perspective, allowing her to integrate environmental sustainability with business strategy and technical operations.
Currently, Mary leads her company’s Carbon Offset efforts, playing a key role in advancing Net Zero commitments. She focuses on developing and implementing carbon reduction strategies, ensuring that environmental sustainability remains a core business priority. Beyond her professional life, Mary enjoys reading, going for walks, watching and refereeing football games, traveling, and experiencing new cultures.
